Great news!

The scores from the 2019 College and Career Ready and Performance Index (CCRPI) were released this morning by the Georgia Department of Education. I am excited to report to you that our total score increased from last year’s 66.3 to 76.2 for 2019, showing 9.9 point increase.

While CCRPI measures only a limited number of school accountability measures, the LHS increase underscores the results of the hard work and focus from our students and faculty from last school year.

In a review of the major indicators for CCRPI, our scores from 2018 to 2019 increased. Here’s a brief overview of score comparisons in all major indicators:

  • Content Mastery – increased 5.6 points
    • Addresses whether students are achieving at the level necessary to be prepared for the next grade, college or career, including End-of-Course test scores in English, Math, Science and Social Studies.
  • Progress – increased 2.9 points
    • Measures how much growth students demonstrate in English language arts and mathematics and how well English learners are progressing towards English language proficiency.
  • Closing the Gaps – increased 73.5 points
    • Sets the expectation that all students and all student subgroups make improvements in achievement rates. It provides schools the opportunity to demonstrate the progress made in improving student performance among all student subgroups.
  • Readiness – increased .8 points
    • Measures whether students are participating in activities preparing them for and demonstrating readiness for the next level, college, or career. High school indicators include literacy, student attendance, accelerated enrollment, pathway completion and college and career readiness.
  • Our CCRPI Graduation rate (combination of 4 year and 5 year graduation rates) – decreased 1.4 points
    • Measures whether students are graduating from high school with a regular diploma in four or five years. This component includes both the four and five year adjusted cohort graduation rates.

Climate Star Rating: The school’s Climate Star rating was unchanged from 2018 to 2019 with a 3 Star climate rating.

  • Is a diagnostic tool to determine if a school is on a right path to school improvement, using 4 components: student, teacher and parent perceptions; student discipline; a safe and substance-free learning environment; school-wide attendance.

Beyond our school performance, it is critical to review how we are measuring up when compared to the all HCS high schools and all high schools in the State.

  • Content Mastery – lags both the District and State averages.
  • Progress – the LHS score is virtually the same as the district’s average and almost 2 points over the State’s average.
  • Closing the Gaps – the LHS score slightly lags the District’s average by 1.5 points, but bests the State average by 12.9 points.
  • Readiness – The LHS score tops both the District and State averages.
  • Graduation Rate – The LHS graduation rate tops both the District and State averages.

In short, our teachers and students did an amazing job to produce these results. Let us congratulate all of them. This is a tremendous, positive indicator of our school’s progress.
