DMS 2020-2021 "Teacher of the Year"

Mrs. Debbie Sechrist

DMS 2020-21 Teacher of the Year!

Confucius once said, “Choose a job you love to do and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Well, I didn’t choose teaching…it chose me. I truly believe that teaching is my calling in life. I have been in education for 21 years in Henry County. Six of those years as a paraprofessional in 1st grade, 2nd grade, middle school ESE, and as a media center assistant. For 10 years I have served as a teacher in upper elementary and then five fabulous years at Dutchtown Middle where I teach, and hopefully inspire, eighth graders to love physical science. I absolutely love teaching my students and look forward to school every single day. I earned my BA in Middle School Education, math major/science minor at Clayton State University. My masters in Post Secondary Education was from Troy University, and my graduate work continued with a Specialist in Education degree with a concentration in mathematics from the University of Georgia.  On a personal note I’ve been married for 40 years to the love of my life and together we have three grown sons, two daughter-in-laws (loves), and three beautiful granddaughters. My favorite college football team is the UGA Bulldogs! Go DAWGS! As recreation, I love to spend time with my friends and family.
