Henry County Schools Celebrates School Board Appreciation Week March 13-17
HENRY COUNTY, GA - The week of March 13-17 is School Board Appreciation Week as recognized by the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) and Henry County Schools.
School systems across Georgia are celebrating their boards of education throughout the week for their dedication and service to their communities.
The Henry County Board of Education is a unified governance team, working diligently together to serve the community by providing focus, resources, and support for more than 6,000 employees and more than 43,000 students across 52 schools, including three academies.
Henry County Schools’ five members of the Board of Education include:
- Mrs. Annette Edwards, Chair (District 2) –ninth year of service
- Mrs. Sophe Pope, Vice Chair(District 4) –fifth year of service
- Dr. Pam Nutt (District 1) –27th year of service
- Mrs. Holly Cobb (District 3) –seventh year of service
- Mr. Makenzie McDaniel (District 5) – third year of service
Henry County Board of Education continues to be a shining example of unified governance built on core beliefs, core policies, and a community-inspired strategic plan.
The board recently received its second-consecutive GSBA Leading Edge Award, recognizing design and implementation of projects and programs that demonstrate positive impact on student achievement and engagement. Additionally, for the third straight year, Henry County Board of Education was awarded Exemplary Board status by GSBA.
The board also celebrated a historic milestone this year as Chair Edwards was elected on Jan. 5 as the first African American female to lead the county’s school board.
“Our board’s diligent work is gaining well-deserved recognition across the state and beyond as a model of unified governance in action to advance opportunities, access, and outcomes for all students,” said Superintendent Mary Elizabeth Davis. “As we celebrate School Board Appreciation Week, we want each board member to know how deeply we appreciate their contributions toward setting the vision for our pursuit of exceptional in Henry County Schools.”
In recent years, the work of the board has been featured in regional and state conferences and has earned multiple recognition as a finalist for the Large Systems Governance Team of the Year for Georgia.
