Did you know? - New Buses On The Way For Henry County Schools

During its regularly scheduled board meeting held last month, the Henry County Board of Education unanimously approved the purchase of 26 new buses.

From resources received from two separate grants and the ESPLOST 6 program, the buses will be added to the district’s current fleet and are expected to be available for use by spring of 2023.

These new buses represent the first and most significant step toward updating a fleet that will have broader capabilities while also being equipped with enhanced technologies. The district expects them to result in greater efficiency and have longer life spans in contrast to the buses currently in service.

Although air conditioning, alternative fueling capabilities, and updated designs will be among the obvious distinguishing characteristics of the buses, perhaps most importantly, an updated, modernized fleet represents the district’s response to a community-supported E-SPLOST program that focuses on enhanced district infrastructure among other things.

Henry County Schools Executive Director of Transportation Cliff Shearhouse said, “We’re very excited about these new buses, but we’re just getting started. The new ones coming online this spring represent the first installment of what will be a total of 125 new buses over the next few years.” This will totally overhaul our fleet, resulting in reduced costs, and most importantly, an improved transportation experience for our students, families, and personnel.
