HCS Pre-K Registration Window for ‘21-‘22 School Year Starts January 25

Families have chance to sign up youngest learners in programs across the district

HENRY COUNTY, GA – Henry County Schools will officially open the registration window for Pre-K classes in the district for the 2021-2022 school year on Monday, January 25.  The window will remain open until Friday, February 5.

All applications can be found on the district’s website by clicking on the Learning & Performance Division link and then selecting Pre-K.  Many common questions from the community are included on this page and they answer a wide array of topics.

A total of nine schools in the district currently have a Pre-K class thanks to funding from the Georgia Lottery.  The offering of these classes in the district has become quite popular, and each year finds more people register for a spot than there are spaces available.  In that instance, the district uses a lottery system to draw the names of students for each program.

This full-day program in Henry County Schools continues to prepare these youngest learners for the transition to kindergarten and beyond.

According to Courtney Jones, Assistant Superintendent of Early Learning & Innovative Practices, Pre-K in Henry County Schools is the right step to start students on the path to educational success.

“Pre-K experiences are essential to the development of early learners,” said Jones.  “We know that when students attend this program, they are better prepared for school and ultimately better prepared for life.  We look forward to our families registering for Pre-K this school year.”

One main requirement for registering a student for a classroom spot includes the child turning four years of age on or before September 1, 2021.

Once the registration window closes on February 5, no additional applications will be collected.  The admissions lottery process, if needed, will take place on March 4, and students admitted will be notified by email before the end of March.

Unfortunately, a submitted registration does not guarantee a spot in a Pre-K program, including if there is more than one eligible child for a household.  As required by the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL), student slots are chosen at random to fill classroom seats.

The current Henry County Schools with Pre-K programs are:

  • Austin Road Elementary
  • Fairview Elementary
  • Hampton Elementary
  • Carmel Elementary
  • Oakland Elementary
  • Pate’s Creek Elementary
  • Tussahaw Elementary
  • Wesley Lakes Elementary
  • Woodland Elementary
