Proclamation! December 9, 2019 - Celebrate Learning in HCS Day

Celebrate Learning in Henry County Schools Slated for December 9

Official proclamation signed by Board of Education, other entities encouraged to participate

HENRY COUNTY, GA – Monday, December 9, 2019, in Henry County will have an extra special meaning this year after the Board of Education took action to sign a proclamation dubbing the day Celebrate Learning in Henry County Schools Day.

The impetus for the day comes on the heels of the district’s remarkable growth shared through the latest results on the Georgia College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI).  The CCRPI is the state department of education’s accountability tool for public schools across the state and has been in place since 2012.

The latest results from the 2018-19 school year found that all three school levels in the district – elementary, middle, and high – are all above the state average for the first time in several years.  Overall, the district is above the state average and improved its score by 11.3 points, from a 66 to a 77.3.

This growth is remarkable and showcases the district as the fastest-improving in the metro-Atlanta and Griffin RESA districts.  Superintendent Mary Elizabeth Davis was able to highlight a few lines of the proclamation during the Study Session before the board took action to formally adopt it during the evening Business Session.

“It’s an opportunity for our board to celebrate our students, our employees, and our schools for their great accomplishments in student learning as well as the recent growth in student performance,” said Davis.

The CCRPI is the most recent academic achievement metric showing growth throughout the district.  There has been a string of good news with increases on Georgia Milestones, SAT, ACT, and graduation rates.

There will be celebrations and recognitions in all schools on the special day and community members, business leaders, and government agencies are encouraged to celebrate the 11-point CCRPI growth and recent academic achievements of all students on this community-wide day of excitement.

Board members made the proclamation official with a signing ceremony at the conclusion of the regularly scheduled meeting.
