Four HCS Students Named Top Writers in Griffin RESA

Griffin RESA Recognizes HCS Students in Writing Competition

Four from Henry win their division in Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition

HENRY COUNTY, GA – Four students from Henry County Schools were recently recognized for their excellence in writing during the Young Georgia Authors Regional Writing Competition hosted by the Griffin Regional Educational Service Agency.

Colton Reeves, a kindergarten student from Hampton Charter Elementary, Aniya McMillan, a 3rd grader from Pate’s Creek Elementary, Avera McMillan, a 7th grader from Union Grove Middle School, and Faith Glasgow, a senior from Locust Grove High School, took home top honors for their grade level in the competition.

As a result of their efforts, the four students will now move forward to the state level of the competition.  The competition is sponsored by the Georgia Language Arts Supervisors and the Georgia RESA Network with support from the Georgia Department of Education.  Students across all grade levels are eligible for this engaging contest which has been in existence for over 20 years.

Students are able to submit various types of writing examples including short stories, poetry, essays, journalism, research reports, personal narratives, and any other original student writing.

Henry County Schools students have a history of performing at high levels during the state competition.  State winners for this year will be announced in May.

According to the competition’s sponsoring organizations, “The purpose of Young Georgia Authors (YGA) Writing Competition is to encourage students to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in their writing, to provide a context to celebrate their writing successes, and to recognize student achievement in arts and academics.”
