Henry County Schools 2018 Graduates Maintain SAT Performance

HENRY COUNTY, GA – Students from the class of 2018 performed at the same level on the SAT as the previous year’s graduates as evidenced in the College Board’s recent release of SAT scores.

Class of 2018 graduates taking the test last school year earned a total mean score of 1010 down only one point from the district performance in 2017.

The SAT consists of two testing areas: math and evidence-based reading and writing (ERW).  The scores from those areas help to formulate a total mean score for each student.  The highest score a student can receive in each testing area is 800, and the highest total score possible is 1,600.

This total mean score is a combination of the ERW and math mean scores.  In evidence-based reading and writing, the mean score of Henry County Schools’ test takers was 519, which is the same score earned in 2017.  In math, students in the district earned a mean score of 491, which is down slightly from 492 the previous year.

Of note, Henry County Schools saw an increase in the number of test takers this year.  A total of 263 more students took the SAT this year.  Eight out of 10 schools in the district saw increases to the number of students taking the test.

Four schools saw increases to their test scores, inclusive of all three measured areas.  Henry County, Luella, Stockbridge, and Union Grove high schools saw increases to their total, ERW, and math mean scores.  The average increase for these four schools in their total mean score was 26 points.  Stockbridge High School, with a score of 1016, had the largest jump with an increase of 62 points compared to last year.  Henry County High School increased by 13 points, Luella High School increased by 23 points, and Union Grove High School increased by 5 points.

The district’s ERW mean score held steady at 519.  Henry County, Luella, Stockbridge, and Union Grove high schools saw increases to their scores in this area by an average of 15 points.  Stockbridge High School, once again, had the largest increase in this score by 35 points, now at 520.

Math mean scores for Henry County Schools decreased by a single point when comparing 2018 to 2017.  The same four high schools with increases in the previous two categories also increased their scores in math by 3 to 27 points. Moreover, Stockbridge High School led the way with a 27-point increase, up to a 496.
