Welcome to the 20-21 school year at Hickory Flat! It will definitely be a year like no other.
I am Mary Beth Middlebrook, and I serve as your Parent Involvement Professional (PIP). My job is to support you, our parents, guardians, and caregivers. My goal is to strengthen the partnership between home and school so that you can be fully engaged in your child’s learning. At Hickory Flat, we want families to be active participants in the life of the school and feel welcomed, valued, and connected to each other, to school staff, and to what students are learning and doing in class.
Each year, we provide a variety of workshops, meetings, information, activities, and resources to support our academic goals. Although this school year is different, with at least part of the year taking place from a distance, we are still committed to providing this support to you. The look may be new as we navigate online meetings and social distancing, but by patiently working together, we can overcome any obstacles that arise.
I am excited to announce our Family Resource Center (FRC) is STILL OPEN! There are dozens of items available for you to checkout, to use at home with your child. Resources include family educational games, flashcards, books, and much more. I would love to show you what we have to offer. I am here Monday through Friday from 7:30am-3:00pm, but you will need to make an appointment before arrival. If these times are not convenient, contact me to arrange another time for your visit. Please note that, once again, we have moved our location, though just a room over. Take a left out of the front office and the FRC will be the first classroom on the right, Room 202.
Remember that as we navigate these unchartered waters, we are here for you. Continue to communicate and work with your child’s teachers. If you have a question, comment, or problem and do not know who to reach out to, feel free to contact me. I often say I don’t know all the answers, but I will make sure we find out who we need to talk to to address your questions and concerns.
By working together, we are committed to ensuring the academic success of our students.
