Dear Parents of Rising 6th Grade Students:
Plans for the transition activities for our rising 6th-grade learners have been developed, and we can’t wait to meet and greet our next class of young War Hawks! The staff at McDonough Middle School is anxiously anticipating the arrival of your 5th grader and is working hard to make the transition as smooth as possible. WELCOME to you and your future War Hawk! We have included a list of upcoming events and activities to help you and your child become more familiar with our school.
WAR HAWK WORDS of WISDOM ABOUT BECOMING A WAR HAWK
Tuesday, March 29-April 1, at the feeder middle schools, OKE, TES, WCE, and WLE
1:00pm-2:00pm
The administrators and counselors will visit the middle schools to present details about becoming a War Hawk, learning about schedules, connections, lockers, behavior, uniforms, and so much more! (Students from other schools are welcome to schedule a visit to tour MMS.)
RISING 6TH GRADE VISIT & TOUR OF MMS

Fifth graders travel to MMS in the morning to enjoy our talented and skilled Fine Arts departments, MMS Student Leaders, the administration, and an exciting campus tour, provided by 6th-grade Ambassadors.
RISING 6TH GRADE PARENT MEETING
Tuesday, April 19, McDonough Middle
6:00pm-7:00pm
This informational parent meeting will include discussions regarding our curriculum, instruction, schedule, grading procedures, home/school communication, and extracurricular opportunities. The parent meeting will also be offered in Spanish on the same night.

PLEASE NOTE: Student requests are considered for all other connections classes; however, class size and master scheduling determine placement. RISING 6TH GRADE SUMMER CAMP: LIT
Monday, June 20- Thursday, June 24 & Monday, June 27- Thursday, June 30
LIT is a literacy camp for rising 6th graders to increase their interaction with literacy, preparing them for middle school level texts. MMS will send more information regarding LIT as we get closer to the summer.
We look forward to meeting you in person, answering your questions, and making you feel like part of the Mighty McDonough Maasai! At MMS, we always ask, “Kasserian Ingera?”. In Swahili, this means “Are the children well?” Our answer to you is YES! At MMS, the children are well.
