Hi! I am Mrs. Forbes. I am excited to serve as the principal here at Stockbridge Middle School. I am a true tiger at heart!
Let me tell you a little about my journey to SMS. I was raised in the beautiful country of Panama. I attended a bilingual Catholic school until I moved to the United States at the age of 15. I lived in Highland Park, New Jersey and graduated from Highland Park High. I moved to Atlanta when I enrolled at Clayton State University. I received my Associates degree in Criminal Justice and went on to Georgia State University. I received my Bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University in Criminal Justice. I worked as a criminal investigator for 5 years in DeKalb County Solicitor General’s Office and in the Clayton County District Attorney’s office. I worked in Juvenile Probation for a short time in Clayton County as well. Working in law enforcement taught me that if I wanted to make a difference in the lives of children, we had to begin before they got to that point. I enjoyed working with my kids as a probation officer. It lit a fire in me that I did not realize had been there for a while.
I went to a Henry County Schools job fair with the hope of being told what I needed to do in order to receive my teaching certification and walked away with a job at Eagle’s Landing High School. I taught there for 2 years and then transferred to Stockbridge High School where I taught for 7 years. I taught Spanish I, Spanish II, Honors Spanish II and AP Spanish. I sponsored the National Spanish Honors Society, was the Assistant Varsity Girls’ basketball coach for 4 years, I sponsored the International travel club for 4 years, and anything else I could do to help students. I was fully involved in what the kids were interested in and tried to open their horizons to the opportunities the world has for them. I also went back to school and received my Master’s degree in Education and a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership. My first opportunity to serve as an Assistant Principal was here at Stockbridge Middle. I was here for three years. I transferred to Henry County Middle where I served for 5 years. In the 8 years as an administrator, I also coached 7th girls basketball here at SMS for a year and served as Athletic Director at HCMS and was a part time hearing officer for Henry County Schools. I believe in structure and discipline. When those things are in place, we can then enjoy ourselves openly with clear boundaries and the expectation to learn!
My wonderful family has been extremely supportive in the crazy life choices I have made and have been there with me through it all. I have been married to my husband Tony for the last 23 years. Our oldest son Lorenzo is 21years old and is currently an Sports Management major at Kennesaw State University (Go OWLS!). My daughter Selena is 20 and figuring out what her life goals and my younger son, Jiovanni, is 18 and a senior Woodland H.S.. The princess of our home is my 5 year old daughter Harmony who is currently in Kindergarten at Cotton Indian daycare and aspiring to be a dancer like her favorite cousin.
My goal for our children at Stockbridge Middle School is to help them achieve their highest potential. The opportunities out there are available to ALL of our babies, we need to help them figure out what they want and how to achieve that. We will help them set academic goals that will help them reach the stars. We want the world to see the superstars that attend Stockbridge Middle!! I have an open door policy, please call me or come see me if you need anything.Mrs. Julissa ForbesEmail: Julissa.Forbes@henry.k12.ga.us
