Course Description: Chemistry is a laboratory course in which students study the properties of matter. Students who successfully complete this course can expect to know the nature and structure of atoms, the contributions of various scientists to the development of chemistry as a subject, how substances are involved in chemical reactions, and the relationship of chemistry to your everyday life.

All students are expected to abide by the Code of Conduct found in the Henry County Student Handbook. Failure to comply with expectations, will lead to consequences. Consequences may include, but not limited to: warning (verbal or nonverbal), seat change, call/email to parent/guardian, parent conference, time out in another teacher’s classroom, and/or an office referral.
Grading Policy: Students will be graded based on mastery of the standards. The percentage of standards mastery will count as 80% of the final course grade and the final exam will weigh 20%. Standards based grades are very fluid and change along with the students’ understanding of concepts.

This is an 18 week course, one semester. Final course grades will be calculated in December at the conclusion of the EOCT.

Late and Make-up Assignments: Students are strongly encouraged to attend each and every class to minimize the amount of late and make-up work. If a student is absent, it is the student's responsibility to check the class website and calendar to see what he/she missed. All lectures have been pre-recorded, therefore the student is responsible for viewing the videos that were missed. If a student misses a test or quiz, he/she will need to see Dr Mehat to schedule a make-up day and time. All late/missing/make-up work is due before the end of the current unit which occurs on the day on the unit test.
Cheating: Cheating will not be tolerated. Any student that is caught cheating will receive a grade of zero for that assignment and their parents will be notified. Cheating includes but is not limited to cheat sheets, copying another student’s paper, allowing a student to copy your paper, helping others on a test/quiz, and/or plagiarism from a book or internet source.
