  • Mr. Waterhouse Hello, and welcome to the Art room! My name is Nathan Waterhouse and I am the art teacher here at Ola Elementary. I began teaching Elementary Art in 2006 following my internship and graduation from Michigan State University with my BFA in Art Education. I also studied Graphic Design at Minneapolis Collage of Art and Design from 1996 to 1999, and earned my MAED from Michigan State University in 2008. In 2015 I joined the Ola team and I could not be happier. Ola Elementary is an amazing place to work. We have a talented team of educators, and a motivated group of students. I live just minutes away from the school with my three children (who also attend in the Ola Cluster), dog, and chickens. I love working within the community I reside!
I am a firm believer that everyone can be an artist in their own way. It can take time to find our artist niche, but my hope is that I can help my students discover theirs. I also want to work with students to build a passion and appreciation for the arts as the arts have been proven as a tool for building academic success! (Click Here)
I know this year marks a unique start to our school year, but I am up for the challenge and I hope that you are too! Below I have posted some suggested supplies for the 2020-21 Remote Learning start so that we can make the best of our virtual experience together.
The artist has to be something like a whale swimming with his mouth wide open, absorbing everything until he has what he really needs." (Romare Bearden)

  • Suggested Supplies for 2020-21 Virtual Learning

pencils, erasure, pen, paper (colored and white - thicker is better - something that could handle getting wet) glue, glue stick, markers, crayons or colored pencils, scissors, and a small watercolor tray. Also, I recommend holding on to random items that you feel may be useable within your art projects.

(Many of these supplies are requested by homeroom teachers as well and can be shared for the purpose of creating art.)
