My Teaching Philosophy
Throughout history people have explored and examined their relationship with others and their experiences with patterns in the world to gain a better understanding of their own identity. Music is a fundamental form of human expression and communication by which we share those experiences, particularly their emotional aspects.
Central to a school's music program is the communicative and expressive nature of music. Every activity in music should be aimed at improving students' awareness of the expressive qualities and refining the ability to both express their own ideas and understand the ideas of others. Because musical expression is rooted in human experience, any study of that expression must take into account the context in which a piece is written and performed. For this reason musical study must be closely integrated with knowledge of all other disciplines and this integration is an important feature of a comprehensive music program.
