    Dear Parents!

I’m so excited to be joining the East Lake Team!  I’ve heard wonderful things about the teachers, the students, and of course, the parents!

My name is Wendy Tanner and I am excited to be working with your child.  Before getting married, I attended and graduated from West Georgia College. I earned a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and then my Masters Degree in Special Education.  Currently I am certified in Virginia (ED, ID, SLD) and in Georgia (SLD).  My husband and I are both from McDonough but after 18 years of marriage and 20 years of service in the US Navy we’ve finally moved home!  During the last 18 years, I’ve taught in many different states (GA, TX, CA, FL and VA) and in many different types of programs.

My husband and I are adjusting to a real life outside of the Navy.  We're used to only seeing each other for parts of the year and communication being through email if we were lucky.  My husband, Sam, did what many (including myself) would consider a dream job flying on and off aircraft carriers in the F-18C Hornet around the world.  While the Navy took us away from family and friends for many years it gave us endless opportunities to meet new people, experience their culture, as well as travel to places we never thought to go.  I got to visit him on deployments in places like Greece, Spain, and even the United Arab Emirates.  One of my favorite experiences was when I got to be a Distinguished Visitor on board the USS Bush.  That trip began with a flight on the C2 Greyhound and a landing on the carrier.  We were given a behind the scenes tour of many parts of the ship.  What was supposed to be an overnight adventure turned into a weekend thanks to snow and ice back in Virginia Beach.  For the first time in our Navy lives, Sam was waiting for me to come home!
While we do not have two legged children, we do have two four legged kids.  Sam and I have two five year old Labrador Retrievers named Piper and Finn.  They keep us on our toes and bring a lot of joy into our lives.  At our new house, we are always the proud of owners of five chickens and a rooster!  We are finding that our retrievers are wanting to retrieve the chickens for us!
We are happy to be back home where we are able to make up time with our families!  Now that Sam will be flying for Southwest Airlines, I look forward to flying for free on all my school breaks:)
