Subjects I Teach: Special Needs Preschool

Welcome to Special Needs preschool! My name is Sandy Utt and this is my 30th year of teaching in Georgia.  I have worked as a Deaf/Blind teacher for 15 years and as a  Special Needs PreK teacher for 15 years. I moved to Georgia from Oklahoma where I worked as a Deaf/Blind Teacher and Severe and Profound teacher for 10 years.

I have a B.S. in Special Education Elementary Education from Southwestern State University in Weatherford, OK, a Master's Degree from the University of Oklahoma in Deaf Education and an add-on Master's in Visual Impairments from Central State University in Ada, OK.  I worked on getting an Early Childhood Special Education add-on in Georgia.  I really enjoy working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing children, but I think my true love is being with the wonderful Pre-K children I work with now.  I just love it when they suddenly understand!!

I have been married to my best friend, Doug, for 39 years and we have a 30 year old daughter, Heather. My other "children" are 4 dogs, Beauty, Ginger, Remington, and Scarlett Rose. I also have 1 parrot, an African Gray, Sweet Pea who loves to talk, sing and whistle.

I love to swim and was a swim team coach for Sandy Creek H.S.  I love to sew and do sewing crafts of all kinds.  I like to read and travel and someday hope to move to Colorado and live in the mountains.

My name is Nancy Penick, I am a Paraprofessional for the Exceptional Students Pre-k at Fairview Elementary School.  I have been working with Sandy Utt for 4 years and together we have developed a strong team that provides basic learning skills and adaptive learning skills for our students.

My history in the working world starts with 3. 5 years in the US Army where I learned how to be a Sewing Machine and Light Equipment  repair specialist as well as an Command Level Administration Specialist.  During my military service, I had the pleasure of living in Aberdeen Proving Grounds Maryland, Fort Riley, KS, and Heidelburg Germany. I left the service as a Sergeant after I was married and had my first child.  I became a military wife of thirty years and have 2 beautiful daughters, and 9 grandchildren.
I attended Midlands Technical College in South Carolina  where I received my Associates degree in Commercial Graphic (Printing and Design).
After college, I worked for several years in the printing industry and then began a career with Olan Mills Portrait Studios.  I worked with Olan Mills for 13 years where I received my Certified Professional Photography Certification.  After moving to GA and working with Olan Mills here I decided to open my own studio in 1998 (Cherin Chancy Studio).  I have had the privilege of photographing families and children all over the McDonough Area and South Metro Atlanta.
In 2009 I decided to join Henry County Schools and help children with Special needs.  It has been the greatest joy of my life to watch these children grow and learn the basic skills of living.  Their excitement when they achieve something new is so amazing and it feels my heart with great joy.  These kids are some of my favorite Heroes and it is an honor to be apart of their lives.
