Write and interpret numerical expressions.

Learning Targets:

MGSE5.OA.1 (Use parentheses and evaluate expressions)

K1: I can use order of operations including parentheses, brackets, or braces.

● R1: I can evaluate expressions using the order of operations (including using parentheses, brackets, or braces.)

MGSE5.OA.2 (Write simple expressions)

● K1: I can write numerical expressions for given numbers with operation words.

● K2: I can write operation words to describe a given numerical expression.

● R1: I can interpret numerical expressions without evaluating them. Understand the place value system.

MGSE5.NBT.1 (Place value)

● K1: I can recognize that in a multi-digit number, a digit in the one’s place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right.

● K2: I can recognize that in a multi-digit number, a digit in the one’s place represents 1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left. MGSE5.NBT.2 (Powers of 10) ● K1: I can represent powers of 10 using whole number exponents.

● K2: I can fluently translate between powers of ten (written as ten raised to a whole number exponent, the expanded form, and standard notation: ex. 103 = 10 x 10 x 10 = 100.)
