Dr. J. Elliott Atkinson's "Bricks & Clicks" Business Environment

Hello! Students and Parents!

Welcome to "Bricks & Clicks" - a business environment where we learn about business inside the brick building and at the click of a mouse through digital media. Thus, "Bricks & Clicks".

I am Dr. J. Elliott Atkinson, a veteran teacher serving in the Henry County School System since 1999. I have also worked in business & industry, taught college classes and served in the Peace Corps. With years of experience under my belt, I still get excited every day when I awaken to come to school - excited about imparting business knowledge to students. I also  continue to study all the time, go to conferences, stay involved in business activities and networking opportunities. You see I absolutely love students and we have a very good time in my class spaces - learning, exploring business ideas, participating and going all out to win in  competitions, scholarships and opportunities!  Now, the question is, "Are you ready to work...harder? smarter? ... and to give it your all as we explore the in's and out's of business???

No doubt, you will work hard under my leadership, but not to worry...anything worth having is worth working for, right? I am also the advisor for FBLA which stands for Future Business Leaders of America. FBLA is the oldest business student organization in the world! A quarter of a million high school and middle school students, college and university students, faculty, educators, administrators, and business professionals have chosen to be members of the premier business education association preparing students for careers in business.

We have a very active, involved CTSO (Career & Technology Student Organization). In FBLA you will learn tons of stuff about business and you will be competing for honors, awards, scholarship and opportunities and you will get to meet people from all over the US. We also take field trips and do our very best to stay at the top of excellence as we pursue learning how businesses operate.

Does this sound exciting? Great! Now...here is a bit more about me. I am married to a a really wonderful guy, Rev. Reginald Atkinson. My husband is a fine artist and he also teaches in DeKalb County School System. We have one son who gave us four absolutely beautiful, intelligent grandchildren. As well, we have many adopted children and grandchildren. All of our kids are adults and our grandchildren are teenagers- but, we do have one pre-teen. May I take a moment and pull out my "brag book"? One grandson (high school Jr., 17) teaches robotics at GA. Tech; our baby girl, though she is only ten years old is in the 9th grade; we have twin daughters (16) who work on the robotics marketing team at GA Tech; there is another grandson (18) entering his freshman year at Hampton University on scholarship and the oldest granddaughter (20) is a Junior at Harvard University with an academic scholarhsip. I could go on and on, but I may get caught up and forget what I am really talking about...and that is YOU! and your education! YOUR education is soooo important and together we are going to do all we can to get you there. Where you ask? To the highest level you could ever dream, think or imagine!

You are precious and well able to accomplish any and all goals that you set you mind and heart to. We will work hard and we will work side-by-side. And, I promise you, you will have a ton of fun as we move toward a much higher calling in life. I am sure you will enjoy your time in "Brick and Clicks".

Take care, and keep looking up!

Dr. Joyce Elliott Atkinson
