Information for Mr. Vanderford's CLASSES for the 2019-20 school year

In addition to the varied other duties which I fulfill for the administration this year, I will be teaching Environmental Science (2 class periods) during the 2nd semester of this school year.  If your reason for visiting this site is somehow related to those classes, I invite you to read through all of the information that I have provided here, then contact me (at the email address provided above) if you have any questions or concerns that are not answered / addressed.

    WELCOME!

Hello!  My name is Kerry Vanderford, and Thank you for taking the time to visit my teacher page!  The opening of the 2019-20 school year marks the beginning of my 16th year as a member of the faculty of Luella High School.  In addition to my work with my classes, I am also the lead sponsor of the LHS Academic Team, and I am excited to be entering my 15th year serving in that capacity.  If you are a student (or a parent), and you are reading this because you (or your child) are considering joining the Academic Team - - Thank you (!) for your interest, but please allow me to direct you to the page specifically for "the A-Team," which appears under the "Activities" tab on the Luella HS website.

As I noted above, my duties during the 2nd semester of this year include my taking on the responsibility of teaching 2 classes of Environmental Science.  If you are an LHS student, and you are reading this because you are going to be in one of my classes, then . . . Welcome!  I hope that you will allow me to assist you as you work toward the completion of your academic goals for this year.  If you are reading this because you are a parent whose son or daughter is going to be in the classroom with me, then Welcome to you too!  I hope that I will have the chance to meet you in person at some point this spring, but, whether that occurs or not, please allow me to encourage you to contact me (at the email address provided above) at any time that you may have a question (or concern) regarding how your child is doing.  I hope that, together, we can help your child to have a successful academic experience this year!

    Latest Update

    (Posted on Tuesday, May 12)

Let me begin by saying once again that, as of a week ago, there are no new assignments for my Environmental Science classes.  (For more detailed information – including a list of the assignments that were given – please see my “Remote Learning Days” page, which appears in the list of linked pages on the left-hand side of this Welcome page.)  With that being said . . .

My work of grading the assignments that have been submitted is progressing.  I would ask, however, that my students help me as I work to expedite the process.  If you have a question or concern of any kind regarding your standing in the class, please make use of my Office Hour sessions in Google Meet as an opportunity to come and speak with me.  (For more information about those sessions, please see below.)  You may just have a simple question – such as where I am in terms of finishing the scoring of your work – or you may need to discuss something more involved, such as a list of assignments that you may need to make up.  Regardless of the issue, I think we will both find that a person-to-person conversation will be the best way for us to resolve these issues effectively and efficiently.  Thank you!

    Remote Learning Schedule

Given that this past Friday (May 15) was the last day of virtual classes for HCS, the only Google Meet sessions that will be held this week (Monday, May 18 – Friday, May 22) will be the scheduled Office Hours.  (Those times will be the same for this week as they have been since our return from Spring Break.  See below.)  Students who have questions or concerns about their grades (or other class-related issues) are encouraged to come and speak with me during those times.

    Office Hours:  Monday-Thursday, 2:00-3:00 PM

Friday (IF Day), 9:00-10:00 AM  AND  2:00-3:00 PM

The information needed to join any one of these Google Meet sessions (web address, session code, etc.) will be posted here a few minutes before the session is scheduled to begin.
