Principal, Mr. Sean Thompson
It is with a distinct honor and enthusiastic spirit that I am reaching out to our Union Grove community as the newly appointed Principal of Union Grove Middle School. As a veteran teacher and administrator of the Henry County School system, I have long admired the accomplishments and rich history of academic, athletic, and fine arts endeavors of the Wolverine family, and as we quickly approach the 20th anniversary of operation at Union Grove Middle, I am eager to begin our collaborative journey into the next phase of Learning, Caring, and Growing for our school community.
Over the next few weeks I will be transitioning from my current position as the Principal of Mt. Carmel Elementary School into the same position here at Union Grove. In our three years together at MCE, our school has experienced three consecutive years of growth in academic metrics based on the Georgia Milestones Assessment System; however, what cannot be seen in data and CCRPI measures is the amount of shifting in climate and culture that took place in an effort to reshape and regain initiative and achievement in our learning community. From restructuring dismissal and safety and security measures to restructuring and prioritizing academic programming, a collaborative effort from all stakeholders was necessary to ensure that our school grew, achieved, and flourished, and made continuous and deliberate strides to being a fast-growing, high-achieving learning community that prioritized connectivity with students and a belief that all students can likewise attain audacious accomplishments at our school.I bring this same collaborative spirit and vision with me to Union Grove Middle School, and I'm enthusiastic about returning to the middle school setting. Prior to my administrative experience, I served as a 6th grade science, math, and social studies teacher at Adamson Middle School and Stockbridge Middle School for a combined nine years, twice being named Teacher of the Year. Additionally, I enjoyed the community connection I experienced through serving as a football, basketball, track and field, and baseball coach during my teaching experience. As an instructional leader of Union Grove Middle School, I will lead as I always have, with a fatherss spirit of prioritizing the needs of our children first and ensuring that the instructional and extra-curricular experiences of the Union Grove Learning Community meet the needs of all learners in our building. This is an easy lens to operate from, as my wife and I have four girls, two of which are in the Union Grove cluster of schools, so it is safe to say that my determination to ensure the present and future success of our school is paramount not only to me professionally, but personally, as well.I look forward to partnering with our teachers, students, parents, and community leaders as we take the next big step forward in making Union Grove "The Standard" for middle schools in Henry County and beyond over the coming years.
