In addition to volunteering in your child’s classroom, there are many other ways to get involved at Pate’s Creek. Here are just a few of them. After you review them, you may want to follow the links at the bottom to other related information. Thank you for reviewing these opportunities to volunteer.

PTO Committees -Educational Excellence is a new committee that is responsible for working with teachers and staff at PCE to identify and coordinate academic needs and opportunities for students. Ideas that may be considered include participation in science fairs, geography bees, Odyssey of the Mind teams, displays to highlight literary and artistic talents. promotion of reading initiatives and parent review of new educational materials.

Fall Festival– PTO’s largest annual fundraiser is a children’s carnival that includes a wide variety of games, crafts, food and other activities. Sub-committees plan and coordinate the Games, Food, Silent Auction, Country Store, and General Logistics of the Festival.

General Fundraising - In addition to the Fall Festival, the PTO also sponsors other fund-raisers throughout the year. While we like to make money from these events, the overall goal of these events is to also build a stronger PCE community. These events could include: Movie Night, Parent/Child dance, Bingo Afternoons, and Get Ready For Summer Used Book Sale. We love to hear your ideas and we always need parents to help out with these fun events.

     Other Volunteer Opportunities

Media Center Volunteers - Mrs. Wilkinson can always use volunteers to help in the Media Center with a variety of activities, including re-shelving books and marking Accelerated Reader books. Contact Ann Wilkinson

Scholastic Book Fairs -The Media Center will be sponsoring 2 Scholastic Book Fairs this year. Parent volunteers are needed to staff these sales that run from 8:00 - 3:00. Working the sale is a great way to find out what books are ”hot” for different age groups. Contact Ann Wilkinson

Field Day -Do you remember Field Day when you were growing up? For many kids, it is the highlight of the whole year (and it means that summer is just around the corner). If you thought Field Day was fun for kids, it is just as much fun for grown-ups. Last year, parent volunteers helped set up games and cheer the kids on. Drug Awareness and Self-Esteem Programs - The counselor at Pate’s Creek does a great job of putting together a variety of programs for our kids. They include Red Ribbon Week, Character Education, Hygiene, Big Brother/Big Sister, Mentors and Career Day. A lot of detailed work goes into planning and putting on these events and programs and parent volunteers are always needed. Art Class Support - If any of you have tried to do art projects with your kids, you may have found that setting up materials often takes as much time as the project itself. Think about doing that for 650 kids that range in age from 5 to 12 each week! Mrs. Newsted, our Art Teacher, can always use volunteers to help with a variety of tasks. You don’t need to be a Rembrandt to help out either. Contact Cheryl Newsted
