Success Becomes Excellent when Instruction is Effective and Practical
Effective instruction is important to your child's school day and overall academic success in all subject areas. Here at Smith-Barnes Elementary, we focus on educating the whole child. I look forward to another year of supporting teaching and instruction with your child's teacher to help implement effective researched-based strategies because we are #Bettertogether, and we #ExpectExceptional.
Dr. LaSynge Guyton, Title I- Instructional Lead Teacher, Mentor & Academic Coach.
My goal for the 2019-2020 school year is to LEAD in the effort of using data to drive effective instruction. I will assist and support teachers in using relevant data to gage teaching and instruction in math, science, social studies, and English Language Arts. This will be encouraged and supported in a collaborative setting to include observations, daily walkthroughs, instructional rounds, collaborative planning, conferencing and facilitated Data Talks, based on school-wide data (CFA, benchmarks, MAP, GMA, STAR, Fountas and Pinnell). I will conduct professional developments, model instruction and share best practices with data-driven strategies that will increase student achievement in 4th and 5th-grade mathematics and reading content areas as reflected in the Smith-Barnes Elementary Continuous School Improvement Plan (see below).
Student Performance Goal #1: Smith-Barnes Elementary will increase the percentage of students in scoring proficient or above on the 2020 Milestones End-of-Grade assessment in Mathematics in 4th and 5th Grades from 22% to 27%.
Student Performance Goal #2: Smith-Barnes Elementary School will increase the number of students reading at or above grade level in 5th Grade from 57% to 60% and 4th Grade from 56% to 60% as evidenced by the 2020 GMAS Data.
Student Performance Goal #3: Smith-Barnes Elementary School will Increase the Star Rating on the Georgia Climate Survey from 3 to 4.
To raise the rigor of instruction in ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies, by supporting each teacher to teach at his or her maximum potential through data-driven instructional strategies.
To support data-driven instruction through high expectations in rigor, and depth of knowledge, ultimately empowering all students to reach their fullest potential as life-long learners.
