We are going to have a FANTASTIC year learning about many different topics: views on how the universe was formed, gravity, characteristics of comets, meteors, the position of the solar system in the Milky Way galaxy, planets, phases of the moon, solar and lunar eclipses, weather and climate, the water cycle, oceans, waves, currents, tides, tornados, hurricanes, the Earth's crust, mantle, and core, rocks and minerals, plate tectonics, erosion, volcanoes, fossils, soil, various sources of energy, conservation, and so much more.
This year, you will study Earth Science. This is a broad subject that encompasses the following areas:
Geology
Hydrology
Meteorology
Astronomy
Projects will be given throughout the year and will count as test grades. You will participate in lab activities and must abide by all laboratory safety rules. You will learn valuable study and organizational skills this year. Some skills that you will learn are: using standard safety practices for all classroom labs, investigations, using computations and estimation skills necessary for analyzing data and following scientific explanations, using tools and instruments for observing, measuring, and manipulating equipment and materials in scientific activities, using the ideas of system. model, change, and scale in exploring scientific and technological matters, and many more!!
Homework will be given approximately one to three days a week. You should write all homework assignments and upcoming tests, quizzes, and projects in your agenda each day. If there is no homework, you should write "None". All work is expected to be completed on time.
Make sure you have pencils, a pencil sharpener, colored pencils or crayons, paper, and agenda every day. Grades will be posted regularly on Infinite Campus!!
