• Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

Welcome to a new year at the Academy for Advanced Studies.  I am pleased and honored to be your child’s English Language Arts instructor.  I am truly looking forward to working with and getting to know each of my students and their families this year.  I pledge that if you participate in our exploration, I will do my best to make learning interesting, meaningful, and fun!

For those of you that have not met me, I began my teaching career seven years ago after working in the legal field for many years.  I received my Master’s of Education from Liberty University in 2013; I received my AP Language and Composition certification, as well as my AP Literature and Composition certification in 2018, and I received my Gifted certification in 2019.

Every student will be challenged everyday with rigorous and meaningful instruction that is aligned with the District’s and the State’s content standards.  I demand excellence from all of my students and expect that every student will put forth his or her best effort each and every day.  This type of learning, however, can only take place with the full cooperation of all involved.

I believe students can grow and develop by examining the issues we will cover in class. Words are powerful, and how we use them determines our level of success.  The main goal of my course is to ensure each student becomes an effective communicator. Over the course of this semester, we will work on our reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.

Additional information about your child’s class can be found in my syllabus; I will send home a copy for you to read and discuss with your child.  Please sign and return the signature portion of the syllabus to indicate your understanding and support of classroom expectations.  Please refer to my school web site often (https://schoolwires.henry.k12.ga.us) for updated classroom information.

In order to achieve success, it is important to develop a positive working relationship and maintain open lines of communication.  If you have any comments, questions or concerns, I am available for phone calls and meetings (by appointment, please) each day before school (7:45 a.m. to 8:15 a.m.) and after school (3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.). My email is marsha.dryden@henry.k12.ga.us; to schedule a meeting, please contact your child’s counselor.
