Dear Parent or Guardian,

I look forward to working with you and your child in what will be a very successful and exciting school year at the Academy for Advanced Studies.  In order to achieve that success, it is important that we develop a positive working relationship and maintain open lines of communication.  Please refer to my school web site often (https://schoolwires.henry.k12.ga.us) for updated classroom information.

I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and express my excitement about working with your child this semester. I began my teaching career six years ago after working in the legal field for many years. I received my Master's of Education from Liberty University in December 2013, my AP Language and Composition certification in June 2018, my AP Literature and Composition certification in July 2018, and my Gifted certification in May 2019.  This past summer I attended a three-day conference on Literacy.

I believe students can grow and develop by examining the issues we will cover in class. Words are powerful, and how we use them determines our level of success.  The main goal of my course is to ensure each student becomes an effective communicator. Over the course of this semester, we will work on our reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.

Additional information about the class is provided in my syllabus; I will send home a copy of the syllabus. Please read that syllabus and sign the detachable portion in order to indicate your understanding and support of the classroom system. Students should return that portion to me.

If you ever have any comments, questions or concerns, I am available for phone calls and meetings (by appointment, please) each day before school (7:45 a.m. to 8:15 a.m.) and after school (3:30 p.m to 4:30 p.m.). My email is marsha.dryden@henry.k12.ga.us; to schedule a meeting, please contact your child’s counselor (770/320-7997).
