Rock Spring Elementary Club List 2019-2020

    • Art Club (by application, 4th – 5th grade students, semester rotation)


    Purpose:  meeting after school to provide materials, instruction and support for those students who are seeking a creative outlet in addition to their academic schedule.


    • Chess Club (by application, 2nd – 5th grade students)

    Sponsors: Mrs. Winsor, Ms. Lamb

    Purpose:  meeting after school to learn and play chess to promote strategic thinking, patience, planning, and an appreciation

    for the game of Chess


    • Beta Club (5th graders who meet the school requirements to join Beta Club)

    Sponsors:  Mrs. Loughner, Mrs. Murphy

    Purpose:  promote the ideals of character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students.  It will reward meritorious achievement, encourage and assist students in continuing their education after high school


    • Student Council (elected students in grades 3 - 5)

    Sponsor:  Mrs. French

    Purpose:  To support the needs of Rock Spring Elementary’s student body and to provide community service projects


    • Running Club (by application,  for 4th and 5th grade students)

    Sponsor:  Mrs. Richter & Coach Phillips

    Purpose:  To promote fitness, wellness, cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, endurance, and improved self-confidence through running


    • Golf  Club (by application,  for 2nd – 5th grade levels, 6 week rotations)

    Sponsor: Coach Phillips

    Purpose: Meeting after school to learn and play golf to promote understanding, appreciation of, and skills in the game of golf


    • Honor Choir (by application,  for 4th – 5th grade levels)

    Sponsor: Dr. Walker

    Purpose: Meets before school to practice group singing and to prepare for special events inside and outside of the school


    • LEGO League
      • Junior Lego League (JrFLL) – by tryout/selection process for students in grades K – 3
      • FIRST Lego League (FLL) – by tryout/selection process for students in grades 4 - 5

    Sponsors: Mr. Deabenderfer

    Purpose: to create teams that compete in yearly real-world challenges which require research and creativity


    • Camp Invention  (for students in grades 1 - 5)

    Sponsors: Sarah Nell Griffis

    Purpose: to promote an interest in STEM education by working through various hands-on engineering projects


    • Garden Club (by application, for students in grades 3 - 5)

    Sponsors: Various staff members

    Purpose: to promote an interest in environmental education by working together to plant, cultivate, weed, and maintain the Hightower Habitat and gardens


    • Reading Bowl Club (by tryout/selection process, for students in grades 4-5)

    Sponsors: Mrs. French, Mrs. Van Pelt, & Ms. Biggs

    Purpose: to promote reading comprehension skills in a competitive format, in which students will read and discuss the nominees for the Georgia Book Awards and compete in the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl
