Dr. Jeffrey Hughley


    A native of Tuskegee, Alabama, Jeffrey D. Hughley received his Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Alabama State University in 2004 and a Master of Music Education from Troy University in 2006. Dr. Hughley also received his Educational Specialist Degree in Teacher Leader from the University of West Alabama in 2013 and a second Master of Education in Instructional Leadership from Auburn University at Montgomery 2016. Dr. Hughley recently received the Doctor of Education (Ed.D) in Music Education from the University of Georgia in Athens in 2019. Dr. Hughley is in his seventeen-year as a music educator. He began his teaching career in Tuskegee, Alabama, where he served as director of bands and department chair of the fine arts at Booker T. Washington High School. Under his tutelage, his symphonic and marching bands have received superior ratings at the district, state, Music Performance Assessment, and national levels. He also taught music appreciation, symphonic band, and woodwind methods at Alabama State University. Before coming to Dutchtown High school, Dr. Hughley was the director of bands at Baldwin Arts and Academics Magnet School in Montgomery, Alabama, where he taught Percussion class, Symphonic, Concert, and Jazz bands. Under his instruction, the Symphonic band received straight superior ratings at Music Performance Assessment. He had students to make district honor and Alabama All-State middle school band.

    Dr. Hughley is currently in his fifth year as assistant director bands at Dutchtown High School in Hampton, Ga. Dr. Hughley's responsibilities include co-teach Concert band, assisting with the Wind Symphony, assisting with the Marching band, assisting with Jazz bands, and conductor for the Symphonic Band. The Dutchtown Symphonic Band has consistently received straight superior ratings at Large Group Performance Evaluation since Dr.Hughley has been the conductor.  The Symphonic band has also received superior ratings and Grand Champions at the Southern Star Music Festival in 2019. He has helped increase the number of students in the band classes, jazz bands, and the marching band. Dr. Hughley serves as a concert and marching clinician in the states of Georgia and Alabama. Dr. Hughley is a member of the Georgia Music Educators Association, Alabama Music Educators Association, Alabama Bandmasters Association, Music Educators Community of Central Alabama, Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
