Greetings Dutchtown family and friends!
I am Derrick Hicks and I am the 6th grade assistant principal and I’m excited for the opportunity to work with outstanding students and their families. The 2019-2020 school year will be my first year serving as administrator and my 14th year at Dutchtown Middle School.
As a former math, science, engineering technology, and social studies educator, I’m excited about working with our sixth grade students they transition from elementary school as I will serve as the sixth grade administrator. My teaching experience provides opportunities to work in tandem with teachers as they endeavor to ensure the success of each student.
I graduated with my Bachelors of Science degree from Florida A&M University in 1999 and from Nova Southeastern University in 2002 and 2011 with a Masters in Math Education and Masters in Business Administration respectively.
Prior to becoming a classroom teacher, I worked in the private sector in procurement and as a substitute teacher. My prior teaching experience includes teaching at Bronson Middle-High School, North Marion Middle School, Howard Bishop Middle School, and Dutchtown Middle School.
Please know that I stand ready to help your child in the transition to middle school while we as a school we will “Educate * Empower * Encourage” all students. Please know that your child is not average, but they are awesome.
Mr. Derrick Hicks
