    For those who already know me, then you are aware that outside of working with students, my other two greatest loves are rescuing animals and gardening. My son, Brian and I volunteer quite often at the Butts County Animal Control (770-775-8011) in Jackson, where we live. It is served by Butts Mutts, which is the dog rescue portion of the Butts County Humane Society, www.buttsmutts.com.
     
    The Cat Rescue portion is through www.klassykatsofbc.com. We volunteer at our local shelter on a weekly basis and we foster both dogs and cats in our home, which helps to give them a better chance of adoption. I firmly believe that children who have pets (and learn the responsibility of taking care of them) grow up to be more compassionate and understanding adults.
