    --Georgia Law (20-2-690.1) states that any child between the ages of 6 and 16 who during the school calendar year has more than five days of unexcused absences from school will be considered truant.
     
    --Handwritten notes excusing missed days must indicate specific reasons for the student's absence no more than 8 days will be permitted to excuse absences without the accompany of a doctor's note. 
     
    --Letters: After a child has 3 unexcused absences, letter #1 will be sent home with the student and mailed. After 5 unexcused absences, letter #2 will be mailed home. After 10 unexcused absences, letter #3 will be mailed home.
     
    --Contract: After letter #3 is mailed home, parents will contact the school counselor and schedule a meeting to complete an attendance contract.

    --The counselor and school social worker WILL become involved at any time when attendance is a concern.
