    Dear Parent(s),

    My name is Mr. Craig Ernest, and I will be your child’s eighth grade social studies teacher this year.  I will spend a great deal of time with your child in the upcoming school year.  Because of this, I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you a few things about myself-both personally and professionally. 

    I was born and raised in a small town in central Pennsylvania.  I moved to Georgia in July of 2005 to raise my family.  My wife, Sarah, and I had our first child, Ryan, in August of 2005.  We also have a daughter, McKenzie.  Both of our children attend Ola schools.  I love watching sports, playing sports, and watching my children play sports.  I enjoy playing golf, Frisbee golf, darts, reading, and spending time with my family.  As a teaching professional, I substitute taught one year and taught one year of middle school math in Pennsylvania before moving to Virginia.  In Virginia, I taught two years of third grade and one year of fourth grade.  This will be my seventeenth year as a teacher for the Henry County School Systems. 

    Eighth grade can be a difficult year for some students.  The workload can be overwhelming at times and the students are pushed to be creative, independent thinkers.  However, I have planned an exciting year for my class.

    As a parent, you are the most important person in your child’s life, and we need to work together for your child’s benefit.  I need your support for the homework assignments, academic goals and classroom discipline plan I have set for the students.  I will keep you informed about your child’s progress.  With school and home working together, I know your child will have a successful year. 

    I am looking forward to working with you and your child this school year.
