Thank you for entrusting your child to me at New Hope Elementary School! I will do my best to make math a pleasant educational experience for your child this year. As a parent, you can help by making me aware of any situation which may cause your child difficulty with his/her work, classmates, or school in general. Please read through the important information below and contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Accelerated math courses give students the opportunity to experience a more challenging curriculum in order to prepare them for higher-level mathematics classes (i.e., honors, Advanced Placement, dual enrollment, etc.).  In this accelerated mathematics course, the depth of rigor will be more challenging than standard courses, and your child will be learning mathematics at a much faster pace. Therefore, students enrolled in accelerated courses must have strong mathematical skills.

Students enrolled in accelerated courses must recognize and understand that they will be responsible for extended academic responsibilities and expectations, which may include a more challenging workload as well as additional skill mastery and problem-solving assignments inside and outside of class. The content and strategies they pursue in accelerated coursework will better prepare them for success in their high school and college-level studies. A commitment to the course and its depth of content, along with good time-management and study skills, is essential to your child’s success.

Math homework will be given each week. I strongly encourage students to complete the homework assignments as it will provide additional practice for the skills we are learning in class.

Good behavior is a must! A child loses valuable class time if he/she is misbehaving and jeopardizes the learning of others. School should be an enjoyable learning experience for everyone. I do understand that this course can be challenging and that students may feel frustrated or
overwhelmed at times. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if this is happening. I will do everything I can to help ease this stress and offer support.

Look for “Accelerated Math News” emails that will be sent on Sunday evenings. If there is a holiday/teacher's work day on a Monday, the email will be sent on Monday evening instead. I am in constant contact through email, so please make sure to check your email often. This is going to be a great school year for all of us! Please let me know if you have any comments or concerns about your child and his/her math progress. The best way to reach me is through email.

I have very high expectations for each child in my class. I am here because I absolutely love children and teaching, and I know this is going to be a great school year!
