Through small group counseling I offer support, education and coping skills for students on both academic, behavior and/or social topics.   Topics may include: friendships, divorce or changing family issues, anger management, self esteem building, conflict resolution study skills, and social skills. Groups will meet 30 minutes, once a week for 6-8 weeks. Parents and teachers may offer student referrals.   Students may also request to participate and parent permission is required.

I will also offer informal groups called a “lunch bunch”. A Lunch bunch offers an opportunity for students to eat lunch with me in a designated location and allows me to get to know our students better. Lunch Bunch groups are one session groups and are done by student sign ups.

The small group counseling sessions are offered for grades 1 - 5 are:

Behavior Management: During these sessions I will help students identify appropriate behaviors, equip them with new behavior strategies, and teach them positive ways to vent their frustrations and deal with students, authority figures, and other adults. Conflict resolution skills will also be stressed in this group.

Social Skills/Friendship:  During these sessions I will be helping students to improve their self-concept, build self-confidence, and see themselves as valuable and unique individuals.

Study/Organizational Skills: During these sessions I will help students learn how to prepare, learn and study effectively for maximum results. This group will also focus on organizational skills, test taking strategies, learning how to accept responsibility, and developing positive academic skills needed for school success. Students should become more organized and better learners after participating in this group.
