Mrs. Cheryl Winsor
A little about me: I am originally from Florida and moved to Georgia in 1998. I currently reside in McDonough with my wonderful husband and have two beautiful grown children--a daughter who is a high school math teacher (and a wonderful son-in-law), a son who designs online curriculum and training for a medical company, and have 3 beautiful grandchildren. When I am not at school, you can find me reading, gardening, baking, spending time with family--especially those grandkids--and friends, exploring new places around Georgia, or at my church.
Although I have been teaching for as long as I can remember, I actually started out as a legal secretary, became a full-time mommy, and then became a paraprofessional (teaching assistant) and worked with special education students in Florida and later with 1st grade at Morrow Elementary in Clayton County. I eventually earned my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education at Mercer University and began teaching 3rd grade at Morrow Elementary. I moved to Henry County schools in 2006 and taught 1st grade at Unity Grove Elementary until Rock Spring Elementary opened in 2008. I was a 1st grade teacher at RSE until I began teaching in the Early Intervention Program (EIP) in the fall of 2013. I love working with small groups of students in reading & math through the EIP program!
My philosophy of teaching can be summed up by one of my favorite quotes: "I cannot teach anyone anything. I can only make them think." (Socrates) Every day I attempt to do this by providing high expectations for all students and then giving them the support they need to reach those expectations. I believe it is a teacher's responsibility to foster a love of learning in all children by instilling the belief they can achieve those high expectations, become life-long learners, and do great things as long as they keep an "I CAN" attitude. I count it a privilege & a blessing to work with our fantastic students and staff here at Rock Spring! Go ROADRUNNERS!!
Please feel free to email me at cwinsor@henry.k12.ga.us if you have any questions or need assistance in helping your child succeed here at RSE.
