Mrs. Burns Background and Bio
My Career:
I currently enjoy teaching the Mechanical Engineering & 3D Design pathway at the Henry County Academy for Advanced Studies. I have been at the academy since 2012. I began teaching high school Engineering Graphics classes in 1999. Before teaching, my education and work experience was in the field of architectural and civil engineering design. I worked in the industry from 1993-1999. During these years, I had many wonderful opportunities to work on large projects such as the Hattiesburg Convention Center, Timberton & Canbrake Golf Course designs, The Homestead, Lakeshore, Big Bay Lake and Windridge Subdivisions as well as roadway, drainage, sewerage and bridge projects.
Personal Facts:
I was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and I grew up in Lamar County, which is just south of the city. I was raised to appreciate all things outdoors. I love to hike, bike, hunt, fish, camp, garden and pretty much anything adventurous. My late husband, Cleveland Burns, worked for the Henry County Sheriff's Office. I also have two children. My son, Allen, lives in Chickamauga, GA and works as a diesel mechanic in Chattanooga. My daughter, Whitney, lives in North Pole, Alaska and is a practice mnager for a medical facility. I am very proud of my family and I tend to brag on them every chance I get.
I truly enjoy watching my students graduate and attend various universities to become productive engineers, architects and designers. There is no greater sense of accomplishment than seeing your influence on a student's future.
