My name is Renee Yawn. I am in my sixth "school year" here at Luella, having begun in the middle of the 15-16 school year. I originally began as a para-professional. I quickly learned that I prefer a more "one on one" approach to the students. I have often explained to parents that I "Mommy all day", because that is essentially what I do. I care for chronic illnesses, first aid, emergencies, and I manage the student health paperwork that we are required to keep on file. I also have a number of students who stop in for wellness checks, and we have the occasional anxiety attack. The clinic is a safe space! Although I encourage students to visit, clinic visits are to be made brief - no more than 15 minutes. Please help your student understand that being in class is our number one goal for the school day.
School attendance is paramount to your child's success and I am often asked, "When is my child too sick for school?"
The CHOA website flyer below called "Too sick for school." is very helpful when making this decision. Click on the link below to view this flyer - Too sick for school
