Ola Middle School
6th Grade Mathematics Syllabus
The overall goal of the connected mathematics curriculum is to help students develop sound mathematical habits. Units have been developed in each domain as it pertains to the Georgia Performance Standards. It is desirable for students to keep the “big picture” in mind as we deal with specific goals in each unit.
By the end of grade six, students will demonstrate proficiency in the four arithmetic operations as they relate to rational numbers. Students will further develop and apply their understanding of numbers and operations, measurement, geometry, algebra, and data analysis and probability. Throughout the course, students will enhance their problem solving skills by exploring real-world situations.
Our study of mathematics will be a wonderful and exciting journey, as with any journey, it is a good idea to prepare. Here are the items you are expected to have with you every day: Chromebook, One-subject spiral, Pencil/writing utencil, and Basic Calculator.
As defined by a school wide grading policy, the final grades for each semester will be calculated using the following percentages:
*Practice Work: 40% of the overall grade
* Assessment Tasks: 40% of the overall grade
* Semester Summative Assessment Tasks: 20% of the overall grade
Mathematics Vision Statement:
The belief of the Ola Middle School Mathematics Department is to encourage middle school students to develop and achieve confidence with mathematics, allowing them to compete at their grade level of understanding and comprehension.
