if you still want to know more...read on...

Mrs. Nelson a.k.a. Maestro (superhero name)

Hello!  On this page you will read a little bit about me.  You may find something interesting and you may not.  However, it never hurts to read!  :)

I have been a teacher of many grades and subjects.  I began teaching fourth grade in Bedford, Virginia.  After two years there my husband and I moved to Florida where I taught elementary for a while and Ela/Speech in Middle and High School.

I took some time off from full time teaching while my family was growing.   I now have a daughter studying to be a nurse at UNG and my son is a wildland firefighter in South Georgia.  Both graduated from Ola High.  During my time off I tutored and taught voice to students in the area.  I went back to teaching as a music teacher in Jacksonville for two years.  Pretty soon, we decided to move here to McDonough and I began teaching at Hickory Flat.  There I taught 5, 2, and 3rd grades and had the chance to teach ukulele through a grant.  After teaching at Hickory Flat, I made a move to Tussahaw to teach music and now I am here at Impact Academy teaching ELA in the blended format!

My favorite things to bring into any classroom are technology, reading, theater and music.  These are my passions and I hope that your child will learn to share one of those with me!  I have a Master's Degree in Literacy and graduated in December 2013 with my Specialist Degree in Reading Education from the University of Georgia (go Dawgs!).  I am often trying out new ideas and things to do to help my students develop a love for learning.

I hope that you will feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.

    Thanks!

    Mrs. Nelson

I have added some pictures taken at the International Reading Association conference in Atlanta.  I was fortunate to meet many wonderful authors.

Here is the author of all those Black Lagoon books we like so much.  See if you can find the one in our class library that I am holding and he signed!
