Family & Consumer Science Course Outline


    In this nine week course students will complete units designed especially for each grade level.  A variety of instructional methods and materials will be used to provide for differentiated instruction(videos, software, textbooks, worksheets and food labs).  The curriculum promotes note taking skills, reading and follow directions. This class encompasses activities that require students to apply math and science principles related to real world activities.


    Additional areas of focus include nutrition and wellness, food safety, kitchen safety, kitchen equipment, clothing care, and child growth and development.

    7th Grade Units
    Taking Charge – Childcare, safety, and child development

    Fashion Forward – Clothing selection and care

    Wellness and Foods 7 – Measuring and cooking

    Which Way Do I Go? – Time management and goals



    6th Grade Units

    Looking Good – Grooming, clothing care and health

    Family Matters – Family and community relationships

    Wellness and Foods 6 – Nutrition, Microwave safety and cooking
