Favorite memory/moment in career - "In the years that I have been teaching, I have had so many spectacular moments with my students and colleagues. One of those memories that is especially fond was teaching middle school with one of my dearest friends with some of the most amazing and interesting students ever. Every single one of those students has gone on to do some really amazing things, and we truly felt loved and honored and respected by these students that we had the privilege to teach. Sadly, that dear friend, Nancy Tribble, passed away from cancer several years ago. At her funeral, I walked out to sing and saw several of those students we taught who came to celebrate her life from those years that we worked together making some amazing art, building some fantastic machines, and reading some of the most scintillating novels every written. That particular moment was when I knew that we had a much bigger role as teachers than conjugating irregular verbs or analyzing complex characters or pontificating on the intricate details of arts and sciences. Teachers and students share an unbreakable human bond that is indescribable in the moment and in a multitude of other scenarios, but in that one singular spectacular moment, I was afforded every emotion, every possible human relationship wrapped up in the teacher experience. We touch lives. We shape sound and art and language and culture and when those things come together in a classroom, our lives are also touched. Every day, teachers have another moment, another memory. This is just one of the many."
Fun Fact -   "If you have ever been around me for more than ten minutes, you may have noticed that I love Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman is not simply a perfect hero and protagonist on every single level, she is an iconic and legendary feminist character. We can look at her exposition over many decades to see why she is every woman. I love using her as a teaching tool in the many different classes that I have taught from literary devices to stunningly effortless costume changes. I adore her. I once wrote a proposal for a Wonder Woman curriculum. It is that serious!"
Dream vacation - I didn't realize that my dream vacation was my dream vacation until this summer during the Covid-19 pandemic. I have spent the last 15 or so years traveling to Europe (with students) to learn about art, culture, and language. This summer I am missing that enough to emphatically state that my dream vacation is spending my summers in Europe. Yes, even with students.
Favorite Book - My favorite book is always the book that I happen to be reading. I am currently reading Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie. I love it because it reminds me of being a teacher of students with amazing abilities
Favorite movie - My favorite movie, and unarguably the best movie ever made, is the 2017 cinematic masterpiece that is Wonder Woman starring the incomparable Gal Gadot in the title role as the greatest super hero in history.
Favorite food - My favorite food is the food that I get to cook and share with my friends and family. They love it when I make biscuits and cakes
Favorite color - My favorite color is mostly orange. However, I really love anything shiny.
Saying you use the most - "Be the star you are!"
