Favorite memory/moment in career - "One year in Science studying ecosystems, students were creating food webs. While conducting research, students learned through a class discussion that some cultures consume different types of insects as alternative food sources. My students wanted to try eating bugs. I laughed at the thought of it initially, and we continued the year with many hands on labs. Since it was never brought up again, I figured they had forgotten about it. These students went through 5th Grade and I ended up seeing some of them at their 6th Grade orientation. At 6th Grade orientation, I was happily greeted by my former students, and they asked me about eating bugs! I told them that we could, and I got permission from their parents. We tasted bugs, and a few parents did too! It was so humbling that a discussion we had stayed with them and they wanted to know even after two years of living and doing."
