Welcome to my website! My name is Laura Dufford and I teach ESE SID PID K-2nd grades. I'm very excited to be at New Hope for 2020-2021 school year and am looking forward to embarking on our learning journey! A little bit about me...I've been married to my husband, Wayne, for 25 years, and have 3 children. My oldest son, Ethan, is 21 and is a manager at Tractor Supply Company. My middle child, Troy, is 18 and will be attending the University of Alabama in Huntsville pursuing an engineering degree. My youngest child, Rachel, is 13 years old and will be an 8th grader this school year. Our family is complete by our 2 small dogs, Frodo (from Lord of the Rings) and Halley Boo (her real name is Halloween Boo) because we adopted her around Halloween. A few of my favorite things include playing tennis with Troy, swimming with Rachel, and traveling with my entire family. We will be using Class Dojo this school year for communication and I can always be reached by my school email of laura.dufford@henry.k12.ga.us.

I am a career switch teacher, as originally I was a social worker for Family & Children Services after college graduation in 1995. I began teaching in 2002 after my second child was born, and my first child started PreK. My undergrad degree was received from Mercer University in 1995. In 2006 I graduated from Georgia State University with my Masters degree in early childhood education and multiple/severe disabilities. In 2010 I graduated with my Education Specialist degree from University of West Georgia in special education leadership. In 2014 I began a journey for a terminal degree in education leadership from Liberty University, although I have not yet completed it as I have my dissertation to finish. My dissertation qualitative research is interviewing students with intellectual disabilities attending college programs in the southern US.  I am passionate about promoting independence in kids and providing them with the tools needed to be successful. I believe in providing an environment of encouragement and structure for kids to be their best! Reach for the STARS! 🌟
