I know this has been a different start to our new school year since we are doing remote learning, but I hope you have enjoyed the first few days of middle school.
I am so excited to have you in my Language Arts class this year. We are going to learn so many new things while having fun along the way. One of the best things about getting new students each year is that we get to learn about each other. That is the reason I am writing this letter to you. I am going to tell you all about myself and then you can write a letter back to me telling me all about you. This is a fun way to get to know each other.
I would like to tell you about myself. I was born in Miami, Florida on February 16, 1970. I lived in South Florida for 36 years until I moved to Georgia in June of 2006. I graduated from Mercer University in 2010 with my Bachelor’s Degree, and just graduated this summer with my Master’s Degree from the University of West Georgia. I am an only child and that could be pretty boring at times. It seemed like I was always surrounded by adults. I always wished that I would have had a brother or sister to grow up with for company. You may think this is crazy, but I LOVED school!!! Learning was just so much fun for me and I did really well in school. Don’t get me wrong, I had to study HARD to get good grades, but it was important to me so I did it.
I have a daughter, Jessica, who is 28 years old. She graduated from Ola High School in 2010, and she works in insurance. She has a little boy, Aidan, who is my grandson. He is 8 years old and will be in third grade this year. He goes to Rock Spring. I also have a son, Justice, who just turned 23 years old. He graduated from Ola High School in 2015. He joined the Navy a few months after he graduated. He has gotten to travel to so many different countries while he has been in the Navy. He is stationed in San Diego, California, but is in Spain right now on deployment. I miss him so very much, but I am so proud of him for protecting our great country.
I have been teaching at Ola Middle School for 11 years now. I started off teaching 7th grade for 3 years. I taught Math, Language Arts, and Social Studies. I moved to 6th grade eight years ago, and have been teaching Language Arts ever since. I love working with 6th graders. The reason I decided to become a teacher is that I wanted to make a difference in children’s lives. I want to make sure you get a good education and are able to go out into the world and make a difference.
I am looking forward to our year together. My hope is that you will enjoy Language Arts and do your best for me in order to ensure your success.
