Degrees and Certifications:
One of the most important things a teacher can do to help students succeed is to get to know their students. In that spirit, I'd like to share a bit about myself as we get to know each other.
I was born in New Jersey and moved to Georgia when I was in 7th grade. I attended Stockbridge Junior High (as it was called back then) and graduated from Stockbridge High School. I graduated summa cum laude from Georgia State University in 2003 with my bachelors in Middle Grades Education. My concentrations are in Mathematics and Social Studies. In 2010, I received my certification to teach gifted classes. I began teaching at Austin Road Middle and transfered to Ola Middle when we opened in 2006. This is my 18th year teaching. I taught 8th grade Georgia Studies for 8 years and this is my 10th year teaching 6th grade Math.
I could not imagine having any other job. I love that everyday is different! I love working with this age group and seeing them mature throughout the year. I love that one day they want to be treated as an adult and the next they want hugs again! The best part of moving down to 6th grade is that I still get two more years to see their beautiful faces around the halls before they move over to the building next door. This age is an adventure and I'm looking forward to being a part of your child's life - even if it's for a brief time.
My husband and I just celebrated our 17th year wedding anniversary this past summer. We have 4 children - two girls and two boys. Keagan is 13 and just started 8th grade, Kiernan is 10 and starting 5th grade, Liam is 9 and is in 4th grade, and Lochlan is 2 years old.
I'm looking forward to a great year! Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions/concerns!
