In January, the Wind Symphony performed a 45 minute invitational concert at the 62nd annual University of Georgia January Band Festival, and was one of two bands selection to perform at Georgia State University's "Bands of Distinction" event!

    The Marching Band had another succcessful competitive season.  At Sprayberry High School's Southern Invitational, the band was awarded the distinctions of 1st place band, class AAA, best in class and division drum majors, colorguard, music performance, and overall effect.  In addition, with the highest overall music score for the day, the band was awarded the Dan Martin award for music excellence and was also named this year’s Gold Division Grand Champion!


    In March, both the Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band earned ratings of I (Superior) at Georgia Music Educator's Association Large Group Performance Evaluations
    The Wolfpack Marching Band had a very successful competitive season, and was named the Grand Champion of the South Gwinnett Southern Star Invitational.  In addition to being named Grand Champion, the band also won caption awards for overall highest percussion, highest overall drum majors, highest overall colorguard and highest overall music effect.  The band also competed in it's first ever Bands of America event at the Georgia Dome in November.
    Seniors Ellis Elzie and Andrew Blanchard were one of only 100 students nationwide that were named as US Army All-Americans.  They performed with the All-American Marching Band in San Antonio Texas in January. 
    The Wind Symphony was one of four ensembles selected through audition to perform at the University of Alabama Honor Band Festival in February.
    Eleven Students were selected to the GMEA District VI honor band, and three students were selected as members of the All-State Band.

    In March, both the Wind Symphony and the Symphonic Band earned Superior Ratings at District Band Festival (LGPE), at Level VI and Level IV classifications.  The 135 member Wolfpack Marching Band had an incredibly successful competitive season.  At the first competition of the year, the Band was named Grand Champions of the Creekview Classic, placing 1st out of 8 bands, with all superior ratings.  The following week at Sprayberry’s Southern Invitational, the Marching Band was ranked 5th out of 22 groups and the drum majors earned overall first place honors.  At the final competition, the band competed at Rockdale County High School and earned all superior ratings, placing 2nd places in a show with 15 other groups.
    Marching Band:
    The 124 member Wolfpack Marching Band was named Grand Champion of   the Gold Division (Class AAA and AAAA) at the Sprayberry HS Southern Invitational receiving straight superior ratings.  The band also brought home trophies for outstanding marching, colorguard and drum majors.  The Marching Band was named class AAA champion at the McEachern High School Competition, and also won the class AAA outstanding marching and drum major awards. The band also took 1st place honors in General Effect for the entire day, receiving superior ratings in all captions.  The Wolfpack Marching Band earned all superior ratings in class AAA at the Northgate HS Competition, wining several caption awards.
    The Woodland High School Winterguard members had a remarkable second season, scoring first in several competitions, and placing 5th place overall in the Scholastic AAA class at the 2009 SAPA championships



    Student Accomplishments: 

    Senior Flutist Lauren Raby was selected as a member of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony.  Three students were selected to the 2009 GMEA all state Band: Jonathan Kochik (Horn), Andrew Blanchard (Euphonium), and Lauren Raby (Flute).  Fifteen members of the WHS Band program were selected to the GMEA District 6 Honor Band



    A Senior Tuba Player from the WHS Marching Band was selected as a US Army All-American and performed as part of the halftime show in San Antonio, Texas. (name withheld for school-media regulations)



    The WHS Wind Symphony received straight superior ratings at Large Group Performance Evaluations.  The Symphonic Band earned a rating of “Excellent“.
    In its first year of existence, The 78 member Wolfpack Marching Band earned a excellent rating at the Old South Marching Band Competition in Newnan, Georgia. The colorguard received a first place trophy, and an overall superior rating.


    Both the Symphonic Band and Concert Band received straight Superior Ratings at GMEA District 6 performance evaluations in March.  The Bands of Woodland presented their inaugural concert at Clayton State University"s Spivey Hall to a packed house.


    Three students were selected to the Governor’s Honors Program- Stephanie Denham (oboe), Andrea Kent (oboe), and Rosie Joyce (oboe)


    Two students were selected to the GMEA all-state band: Stephanie Denham (oboe), and Lauren Raby (flute)


    The Winterguard was named 4th place at the SAPA championships in Macon in the Scholastic Regional class
