My name is Yolanda Cooper, and I teach students that receive Exceptional Education services in Kindergarten, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades.
I began my career in education 2000 as a third grade teacher. After several years in third grade, I began teaching 4th grade english and language arts. One year, our school's enrollment declined, so we were left with two reading teachers. Since I was grade chair, I decided to try my hand at teaching mathematics and science. Once that decision was made, I remained in that position for both fourth and fifth grades. After serving in the classroom, I became an EIP teacher for four years. I will now educate students as an Interrelated teacher in a co-taught or small group setting.
As a teacher, I believe in the importance of integrating literacy with mathematics. I utilize my experience to support students with problem solving and questioning the importance of the information presented. Once they have analyzed the information, I then assist them with formulating their responses by justifying their answers. It is my belief that after I provide scaffolds and allow students to practice skills, their ability to think critically will improve immensely.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family, traveling, reading, and watching movies.
I look forward to working with you this year!
