I am so excited to be teaching art at BES this year! Go Bobcats!

  • Welcome to ART!

    Dear Parents and Family,

I am so excited to be teaching art at Bethlehem Elementary School this year. In this class we will be covering the Georgia Standards of Excellence for Art. These are new standards that are required to be used this year. These standards can be found using the following link: https://www.georgiastandards.org/Georgia-Standards/Documents/K-12-Visual-Art-Standards.pdf

In the classroom students, 1st – 5th grade, will be using sketchbooks in the classroom. Each week the students have the option to do the Weekly Art Challenge which is posted on my bulletin board outside the classroom. These challenges are to promote creative thinking outside the classroom and gives the students prompts to work from. It should be turned in during their next art class for a small prize (I highly recommend these challenges for 2nd -5th, though k-1st are welcome to participate). Please remember that this is not mandatory and should not take any priority over the students other homework. It is supplemental learning for those students who want it.

The school will be participating in Empty Bowls, below is a brief general description of the Empty Bowls which communities participate in throughout the country:

“Empty Bowls” allows participating artists and groups to create and donate bowls, then serve a simple meal. In some communities, ceramic artists are joined by wood turners, glassblowers, fiber artists, metal smiths, painters, sculptors, and other artists and craftspeople. Guests choose a bowl to use that day and to keep as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. Some event organizers choose to serve the soups in carry out containers and the guests can choose to take a handmade bowl home. In exchange for the meal, and the bowl, guests contribute a suggested minimum donation. One hundred percent of each meal's proceeds are devoted to local hunger-fighting organizations, such as food banks or soup kitchens, or to national or international charitable groups.”
