Mrs. Charlena Raines
Hello and welcome students and parents.
Let me take a few moments to tell you a littel bit about myself. I was born and raised in the Conerys/Covington area. Through out my primary edcucation I had a natual aptatue at math and science. In middle school I was selected to be a peer tutor in my math class and realized that I was good at (and ejoyed) teaching and tutoring other students skills that I had mastered. As a senior in high school I had an oppertunity participate in a teacher cadet couse where I worked with a middle school math class and third grade class. The teacher cadet course and my experiance as a job class trainer (with Publix Supermarkets) futher fulled my desire to become a teacher.
After high school I got married, stared my postsecondary education at Georgia Perimeter College and later transfered to the University of Georgia to finish my degree. I'm proud to say that I graduated from Magna Cum Laude from UGA with Bachelor Degree of Science in Education with a Chemistry focus. I also have gifted in-field certification as well as AP Chemistry certification.
My husband and I have two very active teenage children (Mina & Ashley). Mina graduated from HCHS May 2019 and Ashley will graduate May 2022. We live in Covington, have three dogs (blue healer, and 2 sheppard mixs) and 3 cats as part of our family.
I have been teaching in Henry County School System since 2010 and I have the pleasure of teaching AP Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, General Chemistry, Physical Science and Envionmental Science. I want to instill in my students a greater appreciation for science and an improved understanding of how our lives are impacted by chemistry. I will challenge my students to question their prior conceptions and encourage them to explore new information with a scientific mind.
