Kaserian Ingera!  This Swahili phrase asks, “How are the Children?”  This is our battle cry at McDonough Middle School.   I am honored to be part of this dynamic school under the leadership of Mrs. LaRita Wiggins as we seek to make sure that the answer to this question is that the children are well.

I have labored in this field of education for over thirty years now and I am just as excited today as I ever have been about the potential of our young learners.  Never before have our youth shown the level of resilience than the learners that have intermittently graced our hallways and filled our google meets in the last two years.   Their courage and tenacity inspires and challenges all of us to give our very best each day even in these trying times.  The best way of honoring our youth is to show up every day passionate about making a difference in the life of our leaners.

The path that has brought me to this point included teaching grades 5-12 across nine schools and two states.  Along the way, I have been impacted by talented educators committed to challenging learners to discover their gifts and attain their goals .  It is my determination to continue to operate in the best of this tradition.  Our learners are dynamic in their creativity and their capacity is boundless if given the chance.

My name is Lawrence Gwyn and I am an assistant principal at the McDonough Middle School.
