Ms. Batavia Sumlin
Hello. My name is Batavia Sumlin and I will be your Programming Pathway instructor. This is my four year teaching here at Stockbridge High with me being awarded the 2019-20 Teacher of the Year for the school.
I was born in North Carolina but was raised right here in Georgia since I was 1. Computers and technology were things that really didn't exist when I was in high school. My original career goal was to be an accountant.
After graduating in 1991 from Riverwood High School in Atlanta, I worked in the banking industry. When my department was downsized, I was forced to look for another career. That career led me to join the United States Army where I served as an Information Systems Operator for 3 years. It was during my years of service where my love for technology was born.
Since leaving the Army, I attended Strayer University and obtained dual Masters Degrees in Information Systems and Technology Education. My past industry experience as an IT Support Specialist and IT Manager prepared me for my current teaching career.
I have over 17 years of experience as a technology instructor working for a private school. Over the years, I have taught myself basic programming, trained teachers across the state in technology products and skills, obtained several certifications and taught at the collegiate level while raising a family.
In my spare time, I enjoy watching television, playing Street Fighter, listening to music (New Edition is MY FAVORITE GROUP!!), shopping, taking pictures, hanging with my 3 children, and learning new things related to technology (Yes I am a nerd and I am proud of it!)
