James Thornton, 6th Grade Assistant Principal
I am truly honored to be part of the Mustang Family. I look forward to serving the students and families of the Ola community. Middle school is a pivotal point in a student’s life where families and schools grow together each day. Each student is full of innovation, promise, and excitement. I look forward to cultivating an environment where they can thrive and ultimately reach each goal they have set for themselves.
I started my career in Oklahoma at Hefner Middle school, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. While there I served as the Physical Education teacher, Department Chair, Head 7th grade girls’ basketball coach, football coach, and track coach. I later accepted a position at Northeastern State University, Tahlequah, Oklahoma, as a football graduate assistant. I continued my career at Stockbridge High School as an Assistant Athletic Director, Physical Education teacher, Head Track Coach, and football assistant coach. In the summer of 2013 I start my administrative journey at EXCEL Academy as assistant principal.
I received a Bachelor of Science in Education at the University of Central Oklahoma. I continued my education at Northeastern State University by earning a Master of Science degree in Exercise Science. I also earned my Specialist in Education, Educational Leadership at the University of West Georgia.
I have been in education for nearly 15 years. I have worked for great leaders, been revolutionary, and been a part of awesome teams; but nothing has been more rewarding than to know that I have positively impacted students and their families each day.
As a member of Ola Middle Schools administrative team, I will work closely with the 6th grade families to help with the transition from elementary to middle school be as smooth as possible.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
